Mint Condition are a black group. Their special sound is a product of their eclecticism, ranging from R&B, rock & roll, soul, funk, hip-hop and jazz to reggae, Latin and African flavors. Their debut album Meant To Be Mint included the number one R&B and top ten Pop gold single Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes). Their second album was From The Mint Factory. On their current CD Life's Aquarium not all their songs are inspired or inspiring. Best are their soulful ballades Pretty Lady and This Day, This Minute, Right Now as well as Just The Man For You and Tonight. Also outstanding is Spanish Eyes. So, in the end, half of the CD is more than just audible.

"Mint Condition's breeding ground was the fertile and commercially viable Minneapolis/St. Paul music community. Formed in the early '80's, original players Stokley, O'Dell and Larry were eventually joined by Jeff Allen on keys and sax, keyboardist and guitarist Keri Lewis and the lone non-Twin Cities native, bassist/guitarist Ricky Kinchen. With influences that run the musical gamut, it was obvious from the start that Mint Condition was destined to be more than 'just' an R&B band. In fact, the group's musical abilities are so impressive that they have been tapped to produce and write for the likes of Janet Jackson, Johnny Gill and Perspective label mates, The Sounds Of Blackness."

Five of the six Mint Condition band members are form St. Paul, Minnesota (the sixth is from Chicago, IL). They played for local bands around the St. Paul/Minneapolis area since they attended St. Paul Central High School. Officially born in 1989, Mint Condition were discovered by former Time members Jellybean and Popeye who saw them perform at the Riverview Supper Club in Minneapolis. They asked Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis from the Perspective label to come to a very popular spot for up and coming artist in Minneapolis called First Avenue (the club is featured in the movie Purple Rain by Prince). Jimmy and Terry immediately signed them up. Buy the CD Life's Aquarium from Amazon.com
