J.J. Johnson: Heroes J.J. Johnson is one of the heroes of bebop. He is
considered bebop's star at the trombone. The album's title refers to the great
musicians whose names are associated with some of the compositions represented
on the CD: John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Bill Evans. The title also refers to
the members of the featured quintet: Dan Faulk, Rufus Reid, Renee Rosnes,
Victor Lewis and guest star Wayne Shorter in a
solo-effort in the compostion written by J.J. Johnson - In
Walked Wayne. This is probably the first recording of J.J. Johnson after
the tragic death of his wife in the notorious airline crash of TWA 800. Carolyn
(In The Morning), the ballad Vista and Coltrane's composition Blue
Train are other great tracks on Heroes.
