Pete Townshend is of course part of the pantheon of popular music. He wrote
the hits My Generation and I Can't Explain for The Who and
composed the rock opera, Tommy. After the death of drummer Keith Moon
in September 1978, The Who stayed together until 1983, but Pete
Townshend made a first solo album in 1980, Empty Glass. In 1982, his
album All The Best Cowboys Have
Chinese Eyes was praised by critics as an inspired capture of the moment
and rose to number 26 in the USA and 19 in the UK charts. In Europe, the album
is now re-released, newly digitally remastered from the original master tapes.
To make a long story short, the best thing about the album are the lyrics that are
fully reproduced in the booklet. The music itself is above average but not as
extraordinary as the critic's reviews in 1982 let us expect. All The Best Cowboys Have
Chinese Eyes is above all a CD for Pete Townshend fans. For better albums
