Mövenpick Hotel Cairo - Media City
Article added on February 24, 2012
The Mövenpick Hotel Cairo-Media City
was built in 2002 by the government, which still partly owns it.
It is situated only 20 km or a fifteen-minute drive from the Pyramids of
Giza and 65 km or a 60-inute drive from Cairo International Airport.
The hotel was constructed in the 6th of October District, on the route from
Cairo to Alexandria. The hotel
neighbors are
“Egypt's Hollywood”, the Media-City
studios, a golf course, the Magic Land amusement park, a convention center
for 2,250 people and the 6th October Industrial Area.
The Media City is a tax free zone, which was ideal for using many imported
materials during the hotel construction, including the impressive quantity
of marbles, which you can admire in the lobby (Italian, Spanish and Egyptian
marbles), for the room floors and the bathrooms (sink: Italian; floors and
walls: Egyptian). The luxury hotel is surrounded by a
lavish garden and pool landscape.
When I stayed at the Mövenpick Hotel Cairo-Media City, some 110 rooms,
including all suites, had been occupied for over a year already by a prince
from the Saudi royal
family. He was supposed to become the next Saudi king in the 1970s, but
ended up in the Egyptian exile. He had repeatedly offered the owners to buy
the hotel, but they had kindly declined, wisely preferring a wealthy
long-staying guest. Don't worry if there are no suites available, all 360
rooms at the hotel are recommendable.
As at all the other Mövenpick hotels in Egypt such as the
Mövenpick Resort Aswan, you can get the
famous Mövenpick ice-cream and you can play table tennis; I used both
options extensively.
When I stayed at the hotel, the offered several complimentary shuttle buses
to the Giza Pyramids every day. A tour to the one of the wonders of the
world are a must. For preservation reasons, visits inside the Pyramids are
restricted to a curtain number of visitors per day. I had the chance to do
it. Don't worry if you should be unable to get inside, the more impressive
view is the one from outside.
The Cairo-Media City offers sometimes special events. In 2005, some 20,000
people gathered for the concert of famous Arab singers. At the hotel's
convention center, which fills 2,250 people, artists such as Enrique
Iglesias, Shakira and the Lebanese star Nancy Ajram have already performed.
I made a Media City tour. At Egypt's Hollywood, they were just shooting an
episode of an Egyptian soap opera. Egyptian, US American, English and
Japanese movies have been shot in the Media City. The hotel has its own
multi-function theater cinema with a capacity of up to 1000 people.
Given the fact that the Egyptian Museum in Cairo will move important parts
of its collections to a new museum in Giza (the opening is planned for
2015), the Mövenpick Hotel Cairo-Media City will become an even more
attractive location in the future.

In addition to a gym, sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi, massage rooms, football,
volleyball, basketball, tennis courts and massage rooms where they used some 20
natural massage oils when I stayed there, you can also play table tennis at the Mövenpick Cairo-Media
City, which I used with pleasure to burn the Mövenpick ice cream calories.
